Atelier Soldina

Der Hamster ist ein Videoprojekt, das anhand der Videoaufnahmen eines im Käfig lebenden Hamsters, seiner Lebensbedingungen und seines Verhaltens, das Konzept der Freiheit und des Bewusstseins untersucht.

Es fällt uns schwer, sich einen Hamster in der natürlichen Umgebung vorzustellen. Wir sind gewöhnt, diese Tiergattung als Haustier im Käfig anzusehen, und vielleicht ist der Hamster selbst überzeugt, dass der Käfig der einzige denkbare Ort zum Leben und die einzig vorhandene Lebensbedingung für ihn ist.


Guido Salvini (geb. 1962 in Turin, Norditalien) ist Fotograf und Videokünstler. Nach dem Abschluss seines Kunststudiums in Turin, arbeitete er lange Zeit als Film- und Bühnenfotograf, bevor er mit selbständigen Videoproduktionen begann. Heute umfassen seine künstlerischen Aktivitäten auch Installation und Performance. Guido Salvini lebt und arbeitet in Turin.


THE HAMSTER è un progetto video che partendo dall’osservazione di un criceto, della sua condizione e del suo comportamento, indaga il concetto di libertà e di coscienza.

E’ difficile immaginare il criceto in un ambiente "naturale". Non cosciente della propria cattività questo tipo di animale vive chiuso in gabbia e forse è convinto che questo sia l'unico luogo e l’unica condizione in cui è possibile vivere.


Guido Salvini (Torino 1962), vive e lavora a Torino.
Compie studi artistici e dal 1980 si dedica alla fotografia. Dopo una lunga esperienza come fotografo di scena in teatro e nel cinema inizia a lavorare come video artista.
La sua ricerca si esprime oggi anche attraverso l'installazione e la performance.

THE HAMSTER is a video project that starts from the observation of a hamster, his condition and his behavior, it explores the concept of freedom and conscience.

It 'hard to imagine the hamster in captivity. This type of animal lives locked in cages, and perhaps he is convinced that the cage may be the only place and the only condition where he can live.

Guido Salvini (Torino 1962), lives and works in Torino.
After art studies he works in photography. After a long experience as still photographer in theater and cinema he start to work as video artist.
Today he expresses through video, installation, performance and his image research.
